The Middle Mile Node Program (MMNP) teams are responsible to coordinate the launch, improvement and retrofit of new and existing MMNs. The team also works across multiple stakeholders supporting the MMN operation to develop improved approaches to long term labor planning, improving productivity through data enabled operations, innovating with the latest technology, and adapting our operations to new product and process needs such as Ship with Amazon and Multi-use (M3).
The MMNP Innovation, Engineering and Sustainability Pillar is looking for a Senior Operations Engineer to innovative and lead initiative of developing and delivering next generation, world-class sortation and transportation systems at scale for Middle Mile Nodes (MMN). This is a unique opportunity at a critical juncture in Amazons growth to drive end to end product delivery from inception to execution.

Aufgaben

In this role you will anticipate business, technical and process requirements in the set-up for EU Middle Mile Nodes, focusing primarily on Under The Roof processes concerning material handling. In detail:

  • Invent, design, and implement engineering solutions to complex material flow/transformation and human/machine efficiency problems throughout the Middle Mile sortation processes, to generate high quality in a cost efficient manner,
  • Lead and coordinate design development efforts for optimal solutions for the Middle Mile network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations and nodes layout interferences,
  • Develop and continuously improve technical and design specifications for automated and non-automated Material Handling Equipment in the Amazon Middle Mile Network,
  • Review and sign-off ownership for specification and design deviations and change requests on global level,
  • Review and sign-off of supplier or integrator solution proposals for automated and non-automated sortation solutions,
  • Drive strategic and tactical benchmarks including scorecards on standard compliance and expected performance targets on global, country and integrator level,
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across the Engineering Organizations,
  • Evaluate technical and design issues and validate implications from or to standards,
  • Hosting business reviews with senior leadership and present results of above-mentioned standard definitions and benchmarks,
  • Effectively communicate, present roadmaps, concept designs, program updates to senior leadership on a frequent basis,
  • Work closely with partner teams in Innovation, Robotics, Maintenance, Safety and Operations to build impactful products.

A day in the life
As a Senior Operations Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of making Amazon's Middle Mile more efficient – which means driving novel infrastructure concepts to achieve aspirational targets concerning space efficiency, productivity, costs and quality. You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. Part of your role will involve analyzing historical and forecast data, as well as on site observations and audits to identify where processes and infrastructure could be enhanced. Another part of your role will be recommending changes and using your project management and stakeholder management skills to put new processes and solutions in place.

You'll be based at one of our corporate offices and accountable for positively influencing operational efficiency at the site. If needed, you will carry out analysis at local or national sites. On top of dealing with productivity and efficiency, you'll have the opportunity to share best practices and ideas with our EU and NA network. In this role, you'll use data to drive improvements and continue to grow our shipping capabilities.


Profil
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any discipline), Operations, or a related field and proven experience in the specialty,
  • Experience with automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing,
  • Experience with process design based on Lean Principles,
  • Experience in Capital project management,
  • Experience with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making,
  • Experience must involve ownership/management of engineering design projects,
  • Experience using business/technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software,
  • Travel 25-50% of time across European Sort Center sites.
